We invented a currency to measure all the "hidden" energy in the products we buy
To combat climate change, we need to become aware of the impact of our choices.
This way, we can decide individually—based on our goals, preferences and capabilities—how much and what to consume.
We invented EmCoin (EMbodied energy as a COIN) for measuring the energy embodied in everyday consumer goods.

How is the embodied energy of objects calculated?
Considering the total amount of energy required during the entire life cycle of the product (production, use and disposal) splitted into renewable and non-renewable energy.
Why is embodied energy a reliable indicator of environmental impact?
Because energy production and consumption contributes more than 80% of greenhouse gas emissions. Check the metholodogy section for further info!
Why energy and not CO2?
Energy is closer to people’s daily experience than CO2, at least in relation to the electricity bill. It’s also what makes the world go round!
How do I choose a budget?
Choose the energy budget that best suits your lifestyle, and you can always change it if it’s inadequate.
What budget should I choose to have truly sustainable behavior?
You should choose a value between the Elcun and Finnik profiles, which corresponds approximately to the average of non-OECD countries (approx. 4,000 kWh/year for food, beverages and cleaning products).
Who assures me that the product ratings are correct?
Suasì’s embodied energy values are derived from Agribalyse, based on ADEME and INRAE data, and from Environmental Product Declarations. If not completely accurate, they should be at least “directionally correct”! Check the metholodogy section for further info.
What happens if I don't meet my budget?
If you stick to your budget, you may receive a reward badge. Otherwise, it might be worth switching to a different profile.
What type of purchases can I check through Suasi?
Today, with Suasì you can check the environmental impact of your purchases of food, drinks, and (to a lesser extent) personal and household care and hygiene products.
Who is behind Suasi?
Suasì was developed by ResConDA in collaboration with several partners, including DISEG – Politecnico di Torino and the SEQUS Association, with the contribution of the SEFIT community initiative and the Waldensian Church. See hereunder “Who we are” section.
What is EmCoin? What does it represent?
EmCoin stands for “Embodied Energy as a Coin,” which indicates the total energy cumulated in the product and corresponds to the kilowatt-hour.
How is the share of renewable energy incorporated into a product determined?
To date, the system considers average percentage values specific to the product type (generally, energy from RES equal to 12% for agricultural products and 25% for industrial products).
